Baldness

The baldness is a problem which covers the greater part of population. However, there are many types of baldness and depending on the causing factors, manifests in different ways. One of the most common types is so-called the androgenetic baldness, which is strongly related with hormones and genes. Usually it occurs after puberty by the influence of male hormones, so-called androgens. They cause the gradual atrophy of hair follicles and and at the same time they decrease the life cycle of hair. This type of baldness often affects men and for this reason it is commonly referred to as male baldness. According to the statistical data, which shows that hair loss affects up to 25 percentage of men from 15 years of age and 50 percent of men aged about 50 years. The interesting fact is that the atrophy of hair follicles usually affects only the top of the head and around the tample just leaving alone other parts of body. Although, as already mentioned, the androgenetic baldness relates mainly to men, but sometimes women also suffer from it. It is a small percentage, because only 25 percentage of women are struggling with this disease. The reason of such situation is usually in the endocrine system.

Another type of baldness is known as the alopecia areata. As the name suggests, this type of alopecia is manifested by the hair loss in one or more areas of head. Often the reason of hair loss may be connected with the problems of nervous system, associated with strong stresses, as well as a lack of vitamins. It is also believed that the alopecia areata can appear in autoimmune diseases. Another type of the hair loss is the local baldness, which is manifested by the hair loss at a particular location. Baldness is usually caused by various kinds of skin problems, such as tumors, burns and scabs. Moreover, it also happens that the local hair loss is connected with radiation therapy, or parasites such as ringworm or lichens.

In addition to the aforementioned types of alopecia can be called the telogen effluvium. Alopecia is characterized by diffuse hair loss over the entire surface of the scalp. Typically it occurs, when too large hair loss reaches up the phase of the hair loss at the same time. This can be caused either by prolonged stress or irregular malnutrition. But these are not the only factors which cause this type of the hair loss. There are also cases when the hair loss was caused by the treatment of hormonal disorders or even a reaction to the change of seasons.
Women are very often affected by the telogen effluvium. New mothers are exposed to baldness. They can suddenly loss a lot of hair. Usually this period continuous just above 3-4 months after child’s birth. The main cause is the return to normal estrogen level after pregnancy. Althouh a lot of women are affected from it, usually hair grows again after few months. Besides new mothers, the same type of the hair loss can appear in women during the period of menopause. It occurs, because the estrogen level decreases, that causes baldness which is manifested all over the head. In August and September and also in spring you can realize the increase of hair loss. It’s so called the seasonal hair loss. Regardless of the type of hair loss, it’s worth to consult with the specialists and if necessary, consider about the hair attachment system.
